  • Jackson Pollock Documentary directed by Kim Evans from 1987 (56 mins)
  • The Getty Museum interviews the maker's of the Film 'Pollock' starring Ed Harris – they analyse the film and discuss how and why certain aspects turned out the way they did (just over an hour and probably more relevant as background information just for your interest)
  • The full length feature made by photographer Hans Namuth who filmed Pollock painting on glass – even though you'll see this until you're sick of it, you may find it useful to reference techniques
    • This video is a must watch for beautiful descriptions of Pollock's technique and for detailed references to all of his most famous and most important works: Legendary art historian Kirk Varnedoe speaks to Charlie Rose about the Museum of Modern Art's Jackson Pollock retrospective exhibition that took place at MoMa in New York from (you tube - 57mins)

    Tate Modern's Pop Life: Art in a Material World (2009) – This exhibition is ideal in providing an overview of the span from Modernism to Post-Modernism. Here is the opening night for the Tate's Pop Life. You can watch a short introduction from the curator here and carry on from that link to explore the exhibition room by room – articles follow each section. And here's a virtual tour of the exhibition.

    This is related to Pollock and Warhol and the whole scene: Art & The Sixties (BBC Channel 4) 


    Minimalism 
     This movement took place post WWII and is relevant to artists within Area 5 such as Gordon Walters, Ralph Hotere and Richard Serra.

         This section of American Visions is from the Australian Art Critic Robert Hughes.
    He's not entirely right and he can be a over-bearing to watch but it's a good introduction to Minimalism. In the video he presents information on Judd & Serra (both have content relevant with artistic Contexts, material & space), De Maria (economic Context), Smithson (environmental Context) & Nauman (artistic context re: anti-art).

         This audio link to MoMA's collection of the Judd's Untitled Stack, 1967 discusses an aspect of Context in terms of how the work is installed vs how it was originally designed.

    This short trailer for the movie 'What is Minimalism?' introduces you briefly to the work of Carl Andre (artistic & geographical context) and Frank Stella.
